Easter in Sorrento is one of the most awaited and felt events throughout the year. The Holy Week is rich in religious, folkloristic but also wine-gastronomical dates, giving the town a magical atmosphere.Easter in Sorrento is in fact a travel experience not to be missed: intense are the emotions and the suggestions it offers its visitors, making their holiday unforgettable.

Like in all the towns belonging to Sorrento Coast, also in Sorrento the characteristic Processions of the Hooded People can be seen. On the day of Holy Friday, it is possible to admire, along the roads of the old town centre, the White Procession and the Black one, both belonging to a thousand-year tradition. The White Procession is organized by the Archconfraternity of Santa Monica and takes place in the night between Holy Thursday and Friday: the Religious Brothers dressed in white cassocks, accompany, in the procession, Our Lady while searching for Jesus.

For the show of the Black Procession we have to wait for the evening of Holy Friday, when believers and the Brothers of the Archconfraternity “Morte ed Orazione” dressed in black cassocks, put up Our Lady’s finding of Dead Jesus.

The rite of the processions is thousand-year and rooted in all the towns of Sorrento Coast and in a lot of towns of the Phlegrean and Vesuvian areas.

Easter, therefore, represents a chance ideal to visit the historical and architectural beauties of Sorrento, to admire its wonderful natural landscapes and live its traditions and local folklore.
