Exhibition From June 6th to October 24th 2010, in the enchanting setting of Villa Fiorentino, Sorrento will be housing the important exhibition “LEONARDO and the fantastic Renaissance – Between Naples and the routes of the Mediterranean". The event closes the route undertaken for the award of the “Lucanian Self-portrait” to Leonardo Da Vinci. After long accurate studies, in fact, the work has been attributed to the Italian genius. In the commission which has recognized the paternity of the Lucanian Self-portrait there were Prof. David Bershad, Teacher of History of Art department of Renaissance and Baroque, University of Calgary (Canada); Prof. Peter Hohenstatt, Historian of Art, Teacher at University of Parma; Prof. Orest Kormashow, Director of the Department History of Art University of Tallinn; Prof. Filippo Terassi, Teacher at University of Naples II; Prof. Luigi Capasso, Teacher of Anthropology – University of Chieti/Pescara, director of the University Museum of Biomedical Sciences of Chieti; Mr Gianfranco De Fulvio, Commander Department of Preventive Dactyloscopy of the Racis, a group of Policemen for Scientific Investigations; Prof. Felice Festa, Teacher of Gnathology – University of Chieti/Pescara and the discoverer of the painting, Doc. Nicola Barbatelli, Director of the Museum of Ancient peoples of Lucania. Sorrento will be the first town to house this work. The exhibition will be open to the public for almost 4 months. The wonderful Lucanian self-portrait will be on show together with other works by artists of the Renaissance. On show, in fact, there will be also works by Donatello, Tintoretto and Lorenzo Lotto which will give visitors an interesting itinerary discovering one of the artistically most flourishing periods in Italian culture, the Renaissance. |
