Caruso Prize and Exhibition at Villa Fiorentino

A Sorrento yearly show, the Caruso Prize is an event which occurs in the name of the famous tenor from Campania Enrico Caruso, who spent  the last few years of his life right in Sorrento.
The prize has been created with the purpose to award every year a prize to an artist who has distinguished himself to have contributed to the diffusion of Italian and Neapolitan music across the world.
The Caruso Prize 2009 will be awarded to Renzo Arbore,as preannounced by the Mayor of the town of Sorrento, for his work of transmission and diffusion of the Italian and Neapolitan song across the world. 
The evening dedicated to the award of the artist will be on July 15th 2009 while its recording  will be broadcast by the Rai on July 22nd 2009.
To support the event, the town of Sorrento proposes an important initiative: a show-event to celebrate the first neapolitan song cut on a record, Mamma mia che vò sapè, right by the tenor Enrico Caruso.
The show, housed in the enchanting location of Villa Fiorentino in Sorrento, will be inaugurated onb July 10th and will continue until August 30th 2009.
A hundred years together  - Enrico Caruso and the Neapolitan song is the title of the exhibition which will be opened to the public every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Fil rouge of the show will be the life and the works of the great artist, the first singer to cut on records and the first in the history of music to sell over one million records.
The event housed at Villa Fiorentino is cured by Pasquale Del Bosco, the art director of the Historical Archives of the Neapolitan song who has collaborated for its making, together with Fondazione and the Municipality of Sorrento.
Also the Central Institute for the Sound and Audiovisual Goods, The Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Foundation Bideri and the Museum of the Restaurant Caruso of Sorrento have contributed to the event.
The project has been sponsored also by the Region Campania  - Councillorship for Tourism and for productive activities.
